Biography

Mike Hemingway is a physicist with a background in gas detection, aerosol science and vapour filtration. He is Technical Team Leader of Real Time Measurement at the Health and Safety Laboratory, Buxton, U.K. where he has worked for over 20 years. The team is principally concerned with the applications of real-time instrumentation for monitoring toxic and flammable gases and aerosols, and vapour filtration systems for personal protection. He is a Chartered Physicist and Member of the Institute of Physics. He is and has been involved in projects on:
•    Real-time monitors for vapours and gases especially FTIR and IR gas imaging techniques
•    Evaluation of personal monitors for hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide
•    Optimisation of gas detector location in offshore modules
•    Laboratory evaluation of vapour and particulate filter performance
•    Mine fire detection
•    Aerosol generation, sampling and sizing and particle charging and measurement
